ZONE OF SILENCE

In 1959, the construction of the Connector Factory in the Potkanów district of Radom began, and in 1965, the production of iron connectors was launched, based on the latest technical and technological achievements of that period. The Radom Connector Factory S.A. was the largest producer of iron connectors in the domestic market, and its products could be found in almost every Polish household.

In 2010, the State Treasury privatized the plant. The sale was explained by the financial difficulties of the company. The new investor moved the company headquarters to Siedlce after a year and declared bankruptcy. About 400 people lost their jobs in a short period.

The exhibition “Zone of Silence” showcases this once bustling, or rather noisy, dusty, and constantly burning factory as an incredibly quiet place, suddenly abandoned by the workforce that fought to the end to keep their jobs, believing they could preserve them. I sought out places, objects, and traces they left behind. This is my interpretation of a place that, for many workers, just like my neighbor, Mr. Bolek, was the most beautiful because it was associated with wonderful memories, lifelong friendships, the work ethic, and the construction of something new that gave hope for the future.
